Day 60: Bookworm at the Book Fair

February 29
I helped out at the elementary school book fair and multicultural event this evening.  This is my friend Rachel's son.  While she was working elsewhere, he spent an hour and a half flipping through books, perfectly content.

Day 59: Squirrel

February 28
This little guy seems to like our deck.  He hangs out here a lot.  Of course, they all look pretty much the same, so it could be a whole bunch of squirrels, but we like to pretend it's just the one.

On an unrelated note, the last time I missed a day was February 27 of last year, so I have now successfully taken pictures for 365 days straight!

Day 58: Here's Lookin' at You, Kid

February 27
I hardboiled some eggs and needed a way to keep them separate from the regular eggs.  Now every time I open the fridge it looks like some sort of bizarre Muppet is staring at me.

Day 57: Meat Muffins

February 26
Chris and Vicki made dinner tonight.  They decided to use the muffin tin to make individual meat loaves, instead of one big one, and we giggled all through dinner asking each other to "please pass the meat muffins."

Day 56: Backlit Booth Sale

February 25
Vicki and Ellie sold together for the first time this afternoon.  They did pretty well and, as usual, had a lot of fun.  I love the skills these girls are gaining by doing this kind of thing!

Day 55: More Rainbows!

February 24
Ellie's class painted these rainbows.  I love that, with full-day kindergarten, they have time for art projects.

Day 54: After Class

February 23
The only picture I took tonight was this shot out the windshield as I got into my car after my biology class.

Day 53: Somewhere Over...

February 22
I stepped outside of the bank this afternoon and was greeted by this beautiful sight.

Day 52: Dragon Fruit

February 21
This, apparently, is a dragon fruit.  I had never seen one before today.  I was tempted to buy it, just to see what it tastes like, but I resisted.

Day 51: Snow Hike

February 20
Today we enjoyed our second annual President's Day snow hike around Trillium Lake with some very good friends.  Despite the fact that it rained very lightly on us the entire 4.5 miles and we were soaked to the skin by the end, we had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to next year!

Day 50: "Organized"

February 19
The girls are supposed to put their books away on the bookshelf, neatly.  I guess this is what "neatly" looks like to them.

Day 49: Bookworm?

February 18
We had a game night with friends tonight, and the kids put on skits for us.  I managed to catch this crazed moment before Ellie took off again.

Day 48: The Fun Begins

February 17
First booth sale of the year!

Day 47: Barely

February 16
I spent all day working on a paper that was due by midnight tonight.  This is what time it was when I realized I hadn't taken a picture yet.  Whew!

Day 46: Learning the Ropes

February 15
Vicki's Cadette troop taught Ellie's Daisy troop how to set up and sell at a cookie booth.  Ellie and her Daisy friend are giving it a shot.  They're naturals.

Day 45: Happy Valentine's Day!

February 14
Even I got Valentines at the elementary school today!

Day 44: Don't Judge Me

February 13
This is what Ellie has for breakfast every morning.  I like to choose my battles, and sprinkles on the peanut butter toast isn't one I'm willing to fight right now.

Day 43: Duct Tape

January 13
Grandma & Grandpa sent the girls each $5 for Valentine's Day.  Vicki knew right away what she wanted to spend hers on: duct tape!  She bought this roll yesterday and it only took her about 20 minutes this afternoon to fashion herself a purse.  Considering that I'm related to people who made prom dresses and cummerbunds out of duct tape, I'd say this is a step in the right direction.

Day 42: Cookie Time!

January 11
I picked up the cookies for Ellie's troop today.  My entire van was full to the top.  That's a lot of cookies.

Day 41: A Published Author

January 10
Ellie's kindergarten class "published" books today, and I was invited to join them for the Authors' Celebration.

Day 40: Put a Bird on It

January 9
Vicki spent all afternoon sewing these little stuffed owls.  Yes, we do our best to be true Portlanders.

Day 39: Those Poor Animals

January 8
I got a kick out of this book title in the girls' school library.  I don't really know why, but it still makes me giggle a little every time I look at it.

Day 38: Bare Branches

January 7
There's actually one green leaf on this tree, and I was trying to take a picture of it, but you can't tell.  The weather has been warm enough lately that things are trying to bloom.  Not that I'm complaining, of course!

Day 37: Reader's Peril

February 6
Vicki's semi-organized pile of books by her bed.  You can probably guess what happens every time she decides to read one from low in the stack.

Day 36: Toothy Grin

February 5
Lexi let me pull out an ultra-loose tooth this afternoon (I can't believe I did it!)  She's much happier now that it's not bugging her every time she tries to eat.

Day 35: Locks of Love

February 4
Out of the blue last month Ellie asked me if she could get her hair cut and donate it to "that place that makes wigs for kids who don't have hair."  My friend Erica did the honors, and Ellie can't wait to mail her ponytail to Locks of Love.  After she brings it to school for show and tell, of course.  I'm so proud of her for wanting to help other kids!

Day 34: Beautiful Day!

February 3
The sun is shining, and we Oregonians are soaking up all the vitamin D we can get!  Ellie woke up this morning and insisted on riding her scooter to school.  Lexi and I couldn't think of any reason why she shouldn't, so the three of us enjoyed breathing some fresh air after several months of driving to school.

Day 33: Bio Lab

February 2
In lab tonight we worked with enzymes.  The color in the test tubes darkened in direct relation to the amount of enzyme present.  Pretty cool.

Day 32: Christmas Lights, Still

February 1
Our across-the-street neighbors like to leave their Christmas lights up well into February.  Sorry the picture is so blurry, but apart from an even blurrier one of the moon (I don't know why I even bothered - it's never worked before) it was the only picture I took today.
