Day 90: IKEA Success!

March 31
You know it's been a successful trip to IKEA when the back of your car is full.

Day 89: Black Socks

March 30
We took our Girl Scouts on a nature walk/wildlife spotting field trip this afternoon.  Because "Girl Scouts leave nothing but footprints", we always try to have some bags to pick up garbage whenever we're out.  We found this black sock, which quite clearly defies the song.

And the song, in case you've never been a Scout, is:
Black socks, they never get dirty,
The longer you wear them the blacker they get.
Some day I'll finally launder them,
Something keeps telling me don't do it yet.

Day 88: Brightening Up a Dreary Day

March 29
I'm pretty sure Ellie wasn't planning on coordinating with her umbrella when she got dressed this morning, but she did a good job of it anyway.

Day 87: Hallway Art Gallery

March 28
This new art gallery opened in my upstairs hallway a few months ago.  There used to be another sign suggesting donations for looking at the artwork, but it was actually replaced by artwork.

Day 86: Fort!

March 27
We're all starting to feel better, but we stayed home from church and built couch forts instead.  This one has a library and a (7-inch) flat-screen TV.  The girls read books and watched Harry Potter movies all afternoon.

Day 85: Still Haven't Unpacked

March 26
This morning the stomach virus hit Lexi, and the intestinal part of the stomach virus hit me, so I decided I could get clean clothes from a suitcase for at least one more day.

Day 84: Walking Pharmacy

March 25
The girls and I just returned from the vacation from hell - everyone was miserably sick.  This is the medication I carried on the plane, just in case.  You can probably guess what our problems were by the medicines, but the small white pouch contains new favorite, the Wonder Drug, Zofran (or its generic, which has a name I cannot pronounce.)  The problem is they only gave us enough for four doses, and I had to make it last for two nauseated kiddos on a two-hour drive, followed by a two-hour airport wait, followed by a two-hour flight.  We made it home almost vomit-free.

Day 83: Garden Party Hat

March 24
Grandma and Grandpa brought each of the girls a hat from Aruba, where they went on a cruise recently.  Ellie, who was feeling better today, wore hers during our picnic on the "golf course" (the small putting green in the backyard.)

Day 82: Sick Day

March 23
Vicki and Ellie watching Newsies and trying not to throw up.  Not the best way to spend your vacation.

Day 81: Octopuses...Octopi...Octopodes...Whatever

March 22
Vicki and I made these cute guys while hanging out on a vacation sick day.

Day 80: Sewing

March 21
Last year all the girls made their own pillowcases.  This year Grandma got ambitious and decided to have all the girls make matching pajama pants.  She cut everything out and the girls just had to sew it together.  Vicki has made pajamas before with her Girl Scout troop, but Lexi really didn't have any prior sewing experience, so I was especially impressed at how well she did.  She pretty much sewed the whole thing by herself and they look great!

Day 79: Baking With Grandma

March 20
You gotta bake cookies with Grandma!

Right after I took this picture, my camera broke.  I have no idea what's wrong with it, but whenever I turn it on, it makes weird noises and the screen says "lens error".  Vicki is very kindly letting me borrow hers until I figure out what to do with mine.

Day 78: Hiking!

March 19
Red Cliffs Recreation Area near St. George, Utah.

Day 77: New Books for the Trip

March 18
Waiting for our plane.

Day 76: Ninja Bunny Shirts!

March 17
Showing off the t-shirts they designed with Chris and had made at Zazzle.com.

Day 75: Duet

March 16
Vicki and her friend Ali, being instructed by their awesome piano teacher Brooke for their parts in the piano quartet (involving two pianos!) they're planning for the school talent show.  It's called "Balloon Pop Polka" and I can't wait to hear the whole thing!

Day 74: Got Uniforms?

March 15
If you don't, I can help you!

Day 73: Spring is Coming!

March 14
Woohoo!

Day 72: The Grandparents in the Hats

March 13
Grandma and Grandpa decided to make themselves more interesting for the girls to look at while they chatted tonight.

Day 71: Dolls

March 12
These are my old dolls that live on the dresser in our closet.  All three were gifts to me at some point in my life and have enough sentimental value that I can't part with them.  The Strawberry Shortcake was given to me by my dad for my 4th birthday (and was handmade, I think, by a lady he worked with), the porcelain doll came from my grandma, who liked to give my sister and me dolls that reminded her of us, and the matryoshka doll was from my uncle, who visited us in England while he was working in Latvia.

Day 70: It's All Happening at the Zoo

March 11
No school again today, and Chris was able to take a half day off, so we met up at the zoo and had a fun family afternoon!

Day 69: Pancake Chef Extraordinaire

March 10
Ellie begged for days to make pancakes for breakfast, and since there was no school, and therefore no rush, this morning, I let her at it.  She had a very specific plan: some with chocolate chips, some with pretzels, and some with vanilla wafers.  I'm not sure where the last two ideas came from, but only she was willing to try them.

Day 68: Oldies But Goodies

March 9
These are some of the Harry Potter books on tape that the girls listen to over and over and over and OVER.  It would be nice to have some sort of organizer for them, but no one sells that kind of thing anymore.

Day 67: In the Elevator at Target

March 8
Someone recently asked me if my children get sick of me taking pictures all the time.  Pictures like this clearly show that, for the most part, they do not.  A phrase I hear a lot, right after "She's touching me!" is "Mom!  Take my picture!"

Day 66: Very LOST

March 7
Ben Linus: officially the creepiest character ever to grace a television screen.

Day 65: Peace, Be Still

March 6
I teach the 4-5 year olds at church.  In an effort to make the lesson as entertaining as possible (because 40 minutes is a looooooong time), I enlisted the help of this blanket and toy boat to teach about Jesus calming the sea.  We all held onto the edges of the blanket and created a "storm" by shaking the poor little boat around.  I'm not sure whether they really understood what I was getting at, but we had a lot of fun anyway.

Day 64: Courage, Confidence, Character

March 5
That's what Girl Scouting is instilling in these girls.  I love it.

Day 63: Go Winterhawks!

March 4
Our friend is an ice official for the Portland Winterhawks, and he got us tickets to a game.  I'd never been to a hockey game before, but I think I could become a fan.  We had such a great time!  We even got to see a fight - is it pathetic that I was hoping for that all night long?  Isn't that what's supposed to happen at hockey games?  It was mascot night, so here we have a whole bunch of local mascots (including some princesses, although I'm not sure they're actually mascots of anything) playing between periods.  As for the final score: Seattle Thunderbirds: 1, Portland Winterhawks: 9!

Day 62: Downtown

March 3
I went on a field trip with Vicki's class today.  We saw the Oregon Children's Theatre production of "The Eve of Friday Morning".  It was excellent.  One of the things I love about our school is how much they utilize public transportation.  We walked from the school to the MAX (light rail) station and from the station to the theatre.  Then we did it all in reverse after the show.  In the rain.  And I never heard one word of complaint. These kids are amazing.

Day 61: Big Red Dog

March 2
This is me at the elementary school book fair (see here for another, more complete, image.)  I've never had so many hugs and high fives in one evening.  It was awesome.

Day 60: Snack Mix!

March 1
The girls and I spent the afternoon helping our beloved Miss Natalie (the school counselor) put together baggies of snack mix for tomorrow evening's Book Fair/Authors' Night event.
