We've lived in this house for nearly seven years, and we've hated the wall color for just as long. Several years ago we painted the downstairs and the upstairs hallway, but this weekend we finally painted our bedroom!
Our car has been in the shop all week, but it was ready today and Lexi wanted to join me in picking it up. She even paid for her own bus fare. It was nice to have a travel partner!
First order of business: going through all the girls' clothes. We handed down everything that doesn't fit, and Lexi and Ellie now each have an entirely new wardrobe, and I ended up with a big bag full of clothes to divide between my niece and the girl I babysit. And the girls finally have room in their drawers again.
We kicked off Spring Break with a hike through Silver Falls State Park with some wonderful friends. I have always wanted to walk behind a waterfall; today we got to do it twice! We chose the short 2-mile loop to accommodate shorter legs, but plan to go back one day with just the bigger kids to travel the full seven miles.
I love this picture of my sister and me. It was from about 2002, and you can't tell, but I was about 7 months pregnant with Lexi. Look how long my hair was!
With family visiting, we did so much today, so it was hard to choose just one picture. I love Ellie's expression here, though, and had to go with this one from the Spoonman stall at the Saturday Market.
My Lexi, who for the longest time refused to even crack the covers of more than a picture book, chose to spend our usual after school playtime reading the book her teacher allowed her to take home so that she'd stop reading it during class. Sights like these make this book-lovin' mama proud.
Horrible picture, I know, but it was the best of the three I took today. I picked Chris up from work and made him drive home because the rain was making me nervous.
Vicki, dressed (rather unconvincingly, as it turns out - someone thought it was a Spongebob costume) as a Trefoil, is hawking her wares outside the library.
I went with the kindergartners on a field trip to OMSI today. The Van de Graaff generator in the Physics Lab is one of my favorite things there. The kids loved making the little aluminum pie tins fly off their hands, and watching their hair rise up.
I've been involved with the elementary school's PTO in fighting against the implementation of mandatory breakfast in the classroom, at least until we determine whether our school's current before-school breakfast program is meeting the needs of the students. Vicki, who is served breakfast in the classroom every morning at the middle school, took it upon herself to survey her classmates on the quality of their breakfast. Then she put together this spreadsheet for me. I'm pretty proud of her.
While video chatting with Grandma and Grandpa tonight, the girls got to "meet" their new cousin, baby Nathan. All six of my in-laws' grandchildren are "together" for the first time in this picture. I have no idea why my children are all sticking their tongues out, but I'm guessing Grandpa probably has something to do with it.
There was no school for the elementary kids today, so several of us decided to take advantage of the opportunity to add a little culture to our children's lives and take them to the ballet. We met under the dome at the theatre and I couldn't resist this shot.
The highlight of each month for me. With school and cookie sales making my life crazy, I only got about 70 pages into the book this time, but I still enjoy spending time with some wonderful women.
