Day 173: Gerald and Piggy!

June 22
Ellie scored on the Elephant and Piggy books at the library today.  And she read half of them to me while we waited for her sisters to choose their books.

Day 143: Book and Breakfast

May 23
Lexi borrowed this book from her friend and hasn't been able to put it down.  I love it when they find a book that speaks to them.

Day 112: A Re-read

April 22
Rebecca, by Daphne DuMaurier.  I remember loving it when I first read it, so I'm excited to see if I still feel the same after 20 years.

Day 72: Waiting

March 13
I love how easy my Kindle makes it to bring a book along wherever I go!  Tonight I enjoyed a little bit of quiet reading time while waiting for Vicki to finish her youth group activity.

Day 67: Book Fair

March 8
I worked a shift at the school book fair today.  It's one of my favorite volunteer opportunities, though not the most healthy one for my budget.

Day 8: The Reader

January 8
She loves her new tablet.  Specifically, the Kindle app and all the library books she now has literally at her fingertips.

Day 330: Book Tower

November 25
So many books, so little time.

Day 322: Twoo Wuv

November 17
I'm re-reading this right now for my book club next month.  I love revisiting old friends.

Day 272: Read Banned Books!

September 28
I find it particularly sad that To Kill a Mockingbird is in this display.

Day 250: Book Club

September 6
This month we read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.  I had never read it before (and, embarrassingly, I still haven't finished it) but from the very first page the writing pulled me in.  I can already tell it's going to be good.

Day 184: Obsessed

July 2
We took the girls to the main branch of the Salt Lake City library today.  It's such an amazing building, but more than looking at the structure, Lexi was excited to find the second book in a series she started at the beginning of this trip.

Day 173: Escape

June 21
We arrived in St. George today to temperatures over 100 degrees.  The girls played outside for a little while before I discovered Vicki and Lexi escaping the heat by escaping into other worlds.  Scenes like this one make this book-a-holic mama very happy.

Day 143: Her Turn for the Magic

May 22
Chris has been reading the Harry Potter books aloud pretty much since Vicki was six, and Ellie has been listening in for as long as she's been alive.  But when Chris told her that he thought she was ready to start from the beginning, she could barely contain her excitement.  Reading Harry Potter with Dad is about the best thing there is in this house.

Day 107: Just Like a Real Author

April 16
This is the book that Ellie "published" at school (it's titled "Butterfly", in case you can't read kid-spell.)  She informed us that "Eehla" is her pen name, "because all the real authors have pen names!"

Day 100: Bedtime Stories

April 9
Chris took over the bedtime story reading about the time Lexi was born, and now the girls would almost rather go without stories than have me read them.  Usually if he's gone, I'm allowed to read replacement stories, but not chapters from the books they're reading with Dad.  Ellie looks kind of disinterested here, but I think it was just a combination of enjoying the Daddy cuddle time and not really wanting her picture taken.

Day 76: The Reading Gene Got Switched On

March 16
My Lexi, who for the longest time refused to even crack the covers of more than a picture book, chose to spend our usual after school playtime reading the book her teacher allowed her to take home so that she'd stop reading it during class.  Sights like these make this book-lovin' mama proud.

Day 61: Book Club

March 1
The highlight of each month for me.  With school and cookie sales making my life crazy, I only got about 70 pages into the book this time, but I still enjoy spending time with some wonderful women.

Day 60: Bookworm at the Book Fair

February 29
I helped out at the elementary school book fair and multicultural event this evening.  This is my friend Rachel's son.  While she was working elsewhere, he spent an hour and a half flipping through books, perfectly content.
