Day 90: Easter (Monkey) Bunny

March 31
Each girl found a sock monkey masquerading as a bunny in their Easter Basket.

Day 89: Shot Through the Head

March 30
The Spoonman is one of our favorite booths at the Saturday Market.

Day 88: Bouncing Off the Walls

March 29
Today we went to Sky High Sports, where the girls burned off some Spring Break energy.

Day 87: Aprons with Grandma

March 28
Another plan was to help the girls sew their own aprons.  They completed all three of these in less than two days, and immediately tested them by baking two different types of cookies.

Day 86: Slappy Cakes

March 27
Grandma & Grandpa are here for a visit, and one of the things they wanted to do was take us out for breakfast.  The girls were quick to suggest this local place.  While I will admit it seems a little absurd to pay to make your own breakfast, it's great to not have to clean up after this kind of adventure.  Besides, the Eggs Benedict that my mother-in-law and I shared was well worth the cost of everything together.

Day 85: FBI

March 26
The girls completed their Special Agent badge, so today we took a field trip to the local FBI office for a tour.  We weren't allowed to bring any cameras, cell phones, or recording devices of any kind in with us, but they did let us take a few pictures outside before we left.

Day 84: Ice

March 25
The ice cubes usually break apart when they fall from the ice maker into the box, but this one somehow survived the fall.

Day 83: Chatting

March 24
We figured out how to hook my laptop up to the TV, so now our weekly video chats with Grandma & Grandpa E. are almost life-sized.

Day 82: Haircut

March 23
It's been a long time since Lexi's had even a trim, so she got to be the first of the girls to visit our friend and stylist Erica's new salon.

Day 81: A Day for Me

March 22
Les Miserables came out on DVD today, so what better way to celebrate the end of finals than with a movie and some tasty chocolates while the girls were at school?

Day 80: Josh Ritter

March 21
I have been in love with this man's music for the last several years.  We saw him in concert the last time he came to Portland, in 2010 (but I forgot my camera), and as soon as we found out he was coming back we jumped at the chance to see him again.  He puts on such an entertaining show, and he always seems so genuinely excited that people come and sing along.  If you've never heard his music, I highly recommend it.

Day 79: After the Rain

March 20
We spotted this on our way to Ellie's soccer practice.  Unfortunately, it didn't end up being the end of the rain, and practice was called early because of the hail.

Day 78: The Soccer Rule of Oregon

March 19
If you cancel soccer practice because of rain, you'll never have soccer practice.  However, that doesn't mean that Mom has to watch practice in the rain.

Day 77: Empty Traps

March 18
This morning I joined Ellie in her classroom to find out whether their leprechaun traps had been successful.  Those pesky leprechauns escaped every single trap and trashed the entire classroom.  Her teacher is awesome.

Day 76: Robot Club

March 17
Chris is starting up a Lego Robot Competition Club with some kids in our neighborhood.  This afternoon we had a meeting so he could talk to them about it and make sure it's something they all want to do.  And, apparently, it definitely is.

Day 75: Hanging Out

March 16
We usually do a Google video chat with Chris's parents each Sunday, but this weekend we held the chat a day early and included his entire family.  Besides us in Portland, we had two separate groups calling in from Utah, one from Wyoming, the two pictured from Seattle, and one from Australia.  It was pretty chaotic, but lots of fun.

Day 74: Making Lunches

March 15
My kids don't really go for normal sandwiches.

Day 73: First Practice

March 14
Ellie started soccer practice on Monday, but Lexi's first practice was tonight.  She seems to be picking it up pretty quickly, and so far she enjoys it.

Day 72: Waiting

March 13
I love how easy my Kindle makes it to bring a book along wherever I go!  Tonight I enjoyed a little bit of quiet reading time while waiting for Vicki to finish her youth group activity.

Day 71: Spring is Coming!

March 12
Yay!

Day 70: A New Experience

March 11
Lexi and Ellie both decided they wanted to sign up for soccer this season.  None of the girls have ever wanted to play before, so this is all new to us.  But I imagine this will be a common sight in our living room over the next couple of months.

Day 69: Lexi Gangnam Style

March 10
Lexi decided to entertain Chris & Vicki with a complete rendition of Gangnam Style.

Day 68: A Night Out

March 9
Chris and I enjoyed a yummy dinner at a local place, Bistro 23.  I highly recommend the pizza.

Day 67: Book Fair

March 8
I worked a shift at the school book fair today.  It's one of my favorite volunteer opportunities, though not the most healthy one for my budget.

Day 66: "Wing" Concert

March 7
The band teacher decided to call this the "Wing" Concert, since it was kind of halfway between Winter and Spring.  Unfortunately we weren't sitting in a good location to get a shot of Vicki while they were playing, but here you can see her a little bit - she's on the far left, behind the mike stand.

Day 65: DNA

March 6
Vicki and her friend Ali are leading their Girl Scout troop in the Special Agent badge.  One of the activities was to extract their own DNA.  We followed the instructions found here.

Day 64: Well, Are You?

March 5
One of my students had "are" as one of his red words (high-frequency/sight words), and this was the sentence he came up with.  As a side note, until I started working with this particular kid, I never realized what a pain it is for left-handed people to write on whiteboards or in spiral notebooks.

Day 63: Teacher

March 4
The 4th and 5th graders are learning about the states of matter, so Lexi's teacher asked her to give her PowerPoint presentation to the class.  It was such a success that the other teachers invited her to share it with their classes as well.

Day 62: Smile!

March 3
A screenshot of a drawing one of the girls did on my phone.  Sadly, the only photo I have for today.

Day 61: The Action Packed Snack!

March 2
This just makes me shudder.

Day 60: The Sprinkler

March 1
Vicki was passing the time at a slow booth sale by entertaining me with her sweet dance moves.
