Day 149: Treasure Hunters

May 28
We decided to try out hands at geocaching today.  We followed the GPS coordinates to this cache near Wahclella Falls.  The girls loved the treasure hunt!  We were amazed to discover that there are over 900 caches within a 5-mile radius from our house, so this is definitely something we will be doing again!

Day 148: Fragrant Blossoms

May 27
If anyone knows what kind of tree this is, please let me know, because I need to plant one in my yard.  The smell is absolutely heavenly.

Day 147: Slappy Cakes!

May 26
To reward ourselves for spending the day cleaning out all the cupboards after a recent mouse adventure, we headed to Slappy Cakes, a really fun restaurant where you cook your own pancakes right at your table.  The girls had a blast!

Day 146: I Guess Six Isn't Little to a Six-year-old

May 26
As soon as I finished putting her hair in these pigtails, Ellie said, "Mom, you're making me look like a little girl!"

Day 145: Pancakes

May 25
A few times a month I manage to get my act together early enough to make pancakes for breakfast on a school morning.  Otherwise, it's yogurt and toast.

Day 144: Volunteer Tea

May 23
Each year the girls' school hosts a tea for all the volunteers.  These beautiful flowers were the table decorations, and we were invited to take them home as a thank-you gift.

Day 143: Her Turn for the Magic

May 22
Chris has been reading the Harry Potter books aloud pretty much since Vicki was six, and Ellie has been listening in for as long as she's been alive.  But when Chris told her that he thought she was ready to start from the beginning, she could barely contain her excitement.  Reading Harry Potter with Dad is about the best thing there is in this house.

Day 142: New Middle School

May 21
Tonight was a community information night regarding the school district bond that was passed last year.  They had plans on display for each of the schools, showing all the work that will be able to be done.  The girls' elementary school will be getting many much needed updates, including a library makeover and new computer lab, and the middle school will be completely rebuilt.  Vicki will have moved on to the high school (gasp!) by the time it's complete, but the other two will get to enjoy it.  It looks like it's going to be a great place to learn!

Day 141: Ready to Walk for a Cause

May 20
Today was the annual Northwest NAMIWalk.  I walked alone last year, but this year Chris & the girls joined me and we walked in honor of a family member who is battling mental illness.  I'm so proud of the girls - 5K in just over an hour and not a single complaint!

Day 140: Dancers

May 19
Today was picture day at the dance studio.  Lexi and Ellie are in a tap/jazz class this year, and this is their teacher, Miss Rosie.  She's only 16, but she does a great job with the class.  The recital is next month, and we can't wait!

Day 139: Artwork

May 18
After living here for seven years, we thought it was about time to decorate our bedroom.  We painted the room about a month ago (see here, here, and here), and yesterday these paintings arrived.  They're hanging over the bed (the dark line at the bottom is the headboard) and they make me think of happy dreams whenever I look at them.  Now we just need something for the wall opposite the bed!

Day 138: Shelbie the Mouse

May 17
This is what happens when you volunteer to help at a school book fair.  Trust me, I know.  And now, so does Vicki's friend.

Day 137: Bleach Painting

May 16
We decided to try a new t-shirt making method with Vicki's Girl Scout troop.  They turned out pretty cool.

Day 136: A Little Light Reading

May 15
Addicted to the iPad.

Day 135: The Monday Crew

May 14
On Mondays I have a lot of company on the way home from school.

Day 134: Birthday Treasure Hunt

May 13
Every year since 2004 we've sent Chris on a treasure hunt for his birthday presents.  The fact that we were out of town until this afternoon didn't deter us; we gave him his first clue this morning at camp and made him wait until we got home for the rest, which were hidden all over the house.

Day 133: Fancy Camping

May 12
It appears that camping on my birthday may become a tradition.  Chris's firm designed Creekside Camp, and this weekend was what we hope will be the first annual family camp weekend for his firm there.  Besides the five waterslides, we also enjoyed an indoor challenge course, miniature golfing, gigantic ice cream cones, tasty food, singing and dancing, and just plain all-around fun.  It was a really great way to spend my birthday and Mother's Day!

Day 132: Fun Run

May 11
This is my favorite school event to volunteer for.  This year the weather was beautiful and the kids were (as usual) super excited.  Ellie ran/walked 6 laps and Lexi did 7.  I even ran one lap!

Day 131: Tie-dye!

May 10
This is by far one of my favorite "crafty" things to do.  I definitely have an inner hippie.

Day 130: Talent Show Tryouts

May 9
These five not only go to the same school, but they're all in the same dance class as well, so it was inevitable that they'd all be in the talent show together, too.

Day 129: Through the Sunroof

May 8
It's been so long since we've seen blue skies, I had to take a picture even though I was inside the car!

Day 128: Fairies Welcome

May 7
Judging by our front porch, I'd say it's fairy season again.

Day 127: Car Wash

May 6
The weather was beautiful, so as soon as we got home from church the girls begged to wash the car.  Of course we weren't going to say no!

Day 126: Daisies

May 5
Five of my six Daisy Girl Scouts at the She & Me Tea.  This was the best picture out of about 10.  Have you ever tried to get five kindergartners to hold still all at once?

Day 125: Word Wall

May 4
We went to dinner with our good friends tonight at Tasty n Sons.  Definitely tasty!

Day 124: Tuxedo Brownie Cups

May 3
This has become my go-to dessert to take places - I made it for my book club tonight.  Fairly easy to make, and supper yummy to eat!

Day 123: Rose

May 2
Pretty.

Day 122: Whooo?

May 1
My little babysitting buddy insisted on wearing this awesome hat when we went to pick up the girls from school.
