Day 283: Orange Spice Snack Mix

October 9
That's what it is, and what it is is tasty.

Day 282: Let Them Eat Cake (and Decorate it, Too)

October 9
Handing a roomfull of five-year-olds each a cupcake and a bunch of sprinkles may not be the most intelligent idea I've ever had, but it was by far the most popular.

Day 281: I'm a Sewing Machine!

October 8
It may have been close to midnight the night before the party, but I got Ellie's Belle dress finished! (and I ask myself again, just like I do every year: why do I insist on making their costumes?)

Day 280: No More Cast!

October 7
The saw was very loud and, even though the nurse demonstrated how it couldn't cut her skin, it really freaked Vicki out.  But the cast is off and the arm is better, and we fervently hope that no one else in this family ever breaks any bones!

Day 279: Have a Glowing Birthday

October 6
My baby girl turned 5 today.  She's been happily telling the school secretary each morning how many more days until her birthday, and this morning Miss Terri surprised Ellie with a gift of five glow sticks, which she had to try out at the first possible chance.

Day 278: Mural

October 5
This is about half of a mural on the wall outside the girls' school.  Back when Lexi was in kindergarten and Vicki was in 2nd grade each kid got to decorate a tile.  It's pretty awesome.

Day 277: Creepy Dolls

October 4
The contents of this bin always look like the scene of a mass murder.  I'm glad they don't sell these particular Polly Pockets anymore.  *shudder*

Day 276: I'm Gonna Let it Shine

October 3
Vicki made these candles.  By herself.  She made the wicks, too.  How cool is that?

Day 275: Funky Tomatoes

October 2
These have got to be the weirdest tomatoes I've ever seen.  I found them in the garden plot next to ours, so I have no idea if they're supposed to look like that, or if they just mutated, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat them if they were mine.

Day 274: She Wants to Be Like Me

October 1
And so she chose the black glasses for her school video.  And taught me a lesson at the same time.

Day 273: Share the Love

September 30
And the popcorn.

Day 272: Get SMART

September 29
This is the SMART room at the girls' school (SMART stands for "Start Making A Reader Today").  It's still in the process of being set up for the school year, but Ellie hangs out here while I do my 1/2 hour of volunteer work each morning.  She's getting smart :)

Day 271: Really?

September 28
This sign has been here for at least a week, but the school is a half-mile down this street, and there's not a bit of work - utility or otherwise - to be seen.

Day 270: Getting Lost

September 27
We're a little behind the times - this was the third episode of the first season (of the show "Lost", if you didn't figure that out from the title).  We are totally hooked.
